5 Reasons Why You Should Eat Asparagus

Asparagus has been used in medicine due to its diuretic properties and as an aphrodisiac. It is used as an offering in Egypt in 3000 BC. Is been used in the ancient history in countries like Spain, Greece Roman and Syria. The recipe for cooking Asparagus is the oldest of all recipes in the world.

Asparagus is a good source of vitamin B, calcium, rutin, protein, beta carotene, iron, vitamin C, E, K and many more.

Asparagus has been active in the European community and then has been brought to America by an Dutch immigrant.

There are many recipes to cook it and has very good taste. There are 3 kind of Asparagus, white, purple and green. I have only eaten green. The first time I have eaten was when I first came to Greece and was fascinated by them.

They are my favorite and the taste is amazing. They have many recipes but I like to make them simple and just cook it with eggs.

White Asparagus are said to be very popular in Europe and Asia but I never found white asparagus in Greece shops or supermarkets. White asparagus are called the Royal Vegetable and are less bitter.

I would love to try the purple asparagus since is my favorite color but just like the white one I never have seen it in the shops. Purple asparagus has high sugar and low fibre levels.

My favorite recipe is just simple and easy to make.

Ingredients

2 eggs

5 asparagus

Cheese ( as much as you want)

Salt

Olive oil

Step 1

Cut the asparagus in the size you desire and wash them well. In the pan ad oil and let it sit until the temperature is high and then add the asparagus pieces. Cook until the asparagus has changed color and is little soft.

Step 2

In an bowl we put the eggs and stir them with the cheese. When the asparagus are ready add the mixture and let them cook.

Hope you enjoy this simple recipe. Sometimes the food doesn't need an hard recipe to taste great.

Comments

  1. I made purple asparagus for Christmas. I steamed it and it just turned a darkish green colour. I did not notice any difference in the flavour from green at all.
