Homemade Candy Cane

Candy cane take time and energy to make. They are not easy but can be made at home if you have the time and the equipment. You can make them any color you want.

Ingredients

3 cup sugar

1 cup corn syrup

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon peppermint extract

1 teaspoon food coloring any color you want

Step 1

Spray 2 baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray and preheat the oven to 200 F.

Step 2

Mix sugar, corn syrup and 1/4 cup of water in a saucepan in medium high heat. Stir until the sugar dissolve.

Step 3

Put the remaining 1/4 cup of water in a bowl and use it to wet a brush. Use the brush to wash the crystals on the sides of the pan. Don't stir the syrup. When it boils put a thermometer. When the thermometer is 285 the candy has reached soft crack stage and removed it from heat.

Step 4

After you move it from heat add the peppermint extract. And then put the half of the syrup into the baking sheet and place it on the preheat oven.

Step 5

Stir food coloring in the remaining syrup and pour it in the baking sheet and allow it to become little harder.

Step 6

With a metal spatula we move the syrup, flatten it and fold it over. Repeat it for 2 minutes until the syrup is cooler.

Step 7

Using heat resistant gloves stretch the candy in a long rope then fold the rope in half and twist it until it melts back. Repeat the process for 3 minutes. Stretch the candy in to a rope and put it to oven.

Step 8

Remove the other baking pan from oven and do the same procedure as the other. Remove the other baking pan from the oven and take some pieces from both candies and squeeze and stretch them together and give the shape and form you want. Place the candies in the room temperature to harden.
